What to know about pet interment:

Just like people, pets chosen for interment at Timber Run will be cremated. The cremation process reduce their remains to ashes, which are then in the correct form for placement with their owner.

You will need an appropriate container, such as an urn, for your pet’s ashes. We do not comingle pet and human ashes in the ossuary—that space is reserved for people only.
Most pets can be accommodated, but there are a few exceptions. For some very large animals, only parts of their remains can be interred.

If you have an uncommon or special pet, such as a llama, horse, or goat, and want to confirm whether it can be interred at Timber Run, please contact us. A service advisor will be able to provide you with a specific answer.
Interment at Timber Run Reserve includes the placement of one or more urns in a cremation memorials.  Memorials come in a variety of sizes, shapes and price ranges, such as two-urn memorials and up to large eight-urn family versions. The number of urns that can be placed in the memorial determines how many urns you can place in that memorial.

As mentioned above, pet remains must be placed inside a container or urn for placement in the memorial, and the memorial must be able to accommodate the urn.

For example, a memorial garden block can hold up to two urns, which allows for two people or one person and one pet. Larger memorials, such as an estate niche with a ledge, can accommodate up to six inurnments.

What to know if the pet outlives the owner, or vice versa:

What if a pet outlives its owner? Once you have purchased the property, you can arrange for the pet to be interred at any time after its passing—either alone or with the owner. If a pet passes before the owner, the owner can have the pet cremated and then either store the remains in an urn until the owner’s passing or proceed with interment right away.

Initial Preparation After Death
  • Confirm the pet has passed by checking for no heartbeat, breathing, or reflexes.
  • Wrap the body gently in a clean towel, sheet, or plastic bag to prevent fluid leakage.
  • Keep the body cool by placing it in a refrigerator (not a freezer) at 35–40°F (2–4°C).

Contact Timber Run Reserve.

If you do not already have arrangements in place, call ahead to confirm policies, availability, plot options, and costs. If you already own memorial property, you can arrange interment of the pet’s remains (in an urn or other appropriate container).
When your pet passes, you will want to protect the body as much as possible before it can be taken to the crematory.
If you need to transport your pet to the crematory or funeral home, follow these steps:

  • Place the wrapped body in a sturdy, leak-proof container such as a pet carrier, cardboard box, or cooler with ice packs. Avoid direct contact with ice.
  • Transport the body promptly—ideally within a few hours—to minimize decomposition. Use air conditioning or other cooling methods if traveling a long distance.
